XXXV SIEP CONFERENCE 2023 "NEW CHALLENGES FOR THE WELFARE STATE"

CLEAN went to the XXXV SIEP CONFERENCE 2023 titled "New Challenges for the Welfare State" which took place in Verona on September 14th-15th. It is organized by the Italian society of Public Economics (SIEP). 

Gianmarco Daniele presented a project with Gemma Dipoppa and Massimo Pulejo. The work tries to address important questions such as "Are Female Politicians Attacked More than Males in Italy?" and "Why?". In his presentation Gianmarco Daniele showed that women are more vulnerable to being attacked regardless of their policy positions, particularly when they are new players in the political arena.

Moreover, Marco Le Moglie presented the project titled "The Selection of Criminally Charged Politicians: Evidence from Brazil" joint work with Gianmarco Daniele, Paolo Pinotti, Diogo Britto and Breno Sampaio. The authors show that criminally prosecuted individuals in Brazil are about twice more likely to enter politics and to be elected than non-criminals, a difference not driven by observable characteristics.
