Francesca Calamunci

Francesca Calamunci is a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor (RTDB) of Political Economy at the University of Catania, and a Research Affiliate at the IZA Institute of Labor Economics and the Global Labor Organization (GLO). She holds a Ph.D. in Economics, Management and Statistics from the University of Messina, and she carried out research visits at Bocconi University (BAFFI CAREFIN – CLEAN Unit) and at the City University of New York (John Jay College) as a Fulbright-Falcone-NIAF Scholar. Previously, she was a researcher at Sapienza University of Rome.

Her research lies at the intersection of the economics of crime, political economy, and policy evaluation. She has collaborated as a consultant with the World Bank and is involved in projects funded by the Italian Ministry of University and Research (PRIN 2020 and PRIN 2022). She is also the recipient of competitive grants, including the Modigliani Research Grant from the UniCredit Foundation and the EIEF Grant (Einaudi Institute for Economics and Finance – Bank of Italy).
