CLEAN partners with CEMR on the European Observatory for the Defence of Democracy at the Local Level

CLEAN – the Centre for Law, Economics and Society at Bocconi University has entered a scientific partnership with the Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR) as part of the European Observatory for the Defence of Democracy at the Local Level, officially launched at an inaugural event in Brussels.

The Observatory focuses on monitoring and analysing threats to local democracy across Europe, including harassment, intimidation, and disinformation targeting mayors and local councillors.

The launch was accompanied by public discussions on the role of research in protecting local democratic institutions, including a dedicated episode of the CEMR “Call Simone” podcast, in which CLEAN researchers took part to discuss emerging evidence and research priorities on political violence and democratic resilience at the local level.
