Call for Papers: 12th Transatlantic Workshop on the Economics of Crime
The 12th workshop will continue the sequence of Economics of Crime workshops in Paris (2009), Bonn (2010), Torino (2011), Rotterdam (2012), Frankfurt (2013), Milan (2014), London (2015), Stockholm (2016), University of Pennsylvania (2017), Paris (2018), and Amsterdam (2019).
It will be held virtually from Friday, October 1 to Saturday, October 2, 2021.
We aim to bring together researchers from both sides of the Atlantic to present and discuss their work, allowing for an in-depth interaction between those working on the empirical and theoretical analysis of crime and illegal behaviour. We will aim to pick times of day convenient for all participants.
The workshop will consist of two keynote lectures – to be given by Anna Harvey (NYU) and Katrine Løken (Norwegian School of Economics) – and 10 to 12 contributed papers.
One of the suggested themes of this year’s workshop will be the economics of victimization, but the workshop is not limited to this topic. Other suggested topics include the following:
• Social prevention of crime and violence
• Evaluation of police crime reduction strategies
• Reinsertion and rehabilitation interventions
• Guns (and related policies) and crime
• Social interactions, networks, and crime
• Judicial decisions
• Economic crises, poverty, inequality and crime
• Crime and labour markets
• Crime and health/mental health
The workshop is organized by the Department of Economics, University of Gothenburg. We invite researchers to submit a paper (in PDF) by sending an e-mail to Randi Hjalmarsson (twec2021@economics.gu.se). The submission deadline is June 1st, 2021. Authors of accepted papers will be notified by July 15th 2021.
The 2021 program committee is: Randi Hjalmarsson (University of Gothenburg); Roberto Galbiati (Sciences Po Paris); Olivier Marie (Erasmus University Rotterdam); Emily Owens (UC Irvine); Paolo Pinotti (Bocconi University); Aurelie Ouss (University of Pennsylvania).
